National Institute on Aging

The National Institute on Aging (NIA) leads a national program of research on the biomedical, social, and behavioral aspects of the aging process, the prevention of age-related diseases and disabilities, and the promotion of a better quality of life for all older Americans. The NIA is one of 27 institutes and centers of the National Institutes of Health.

Alzheimer's Disease Education & Referral Center

The U.S. Congress created the Alzheimer’s Disease Education and Referral Center (ADEAR) in 1990 to “compile, archive, and disseminate information concerning Alzheimer’s disease” for health professionals, people with AD and their families, and the public. The ADEAR Center is a service of the National Institute on Aging. ADEAR supports the Alzheimer’s Disease Centers by listing all active ADCS studies, the approved sites, and contact information. This website is frequently visited by people all over the country who have concerns about AD, and who consequently call their toll-free number (1-800-438-4380), to obtain information about Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders.
