Application to join the ADCS
An Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis is typically part of the entry criteria to our clinical trials. Therefore, the ADCS looks for Principal Investigators that are experienced in diagnosing and treating Alzheimer’s disease. This is often a neurologist, psychiatrist, or geriatrician, although other physicians may have this expertise as well since we have had some excellent non-MD clinicians who have served as PI.
We look for large practices treating dementia or those that have a memory clinic or other memory specialty. Most of our trials occur in a community setting but occasionally permit inclusion of participants from other settings. Most participants have “study partners” who can help the participant comply with study procedures.
Because interest in biomarker research and Alzheimer’s is increasing the ADCS often seeks sites that have experience with lumbar punctures and neuroimaging. The ADCS uses also uses distributed data entry so sites must have the capability to access the Internet in order to make electronic data submissions.
Although a neuropsychologist is not required for all trials, it is important that there is a staff member who is capable of conducting cognitive tests. Outcome measures used in AD trials are often based on cognitive tests.
The ADCS is affiliated with investigators and research centers throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. If you are interested in becoming an ADCS consortium site please complete a Clinical Trials Experience form. Please submit this and the CV of the proposed Principal Investigator to bbartocci@ucsd.edu. After an initial internal review you will be contacted for an interview and possibly a site visit. You may also provide a supplemental statement detailing any pertinent information that you feel should be considered in the application.
